Devra Davis, PhD, MPH, is a scientist, professor, speaker, and acclaimed author. Dr. Davis was director of the world’s first Center for Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Honored for her research and public policy work by various national and international groups, she is an expert advisor to the World Health Organization. The founding director of the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a Senate confirmed presidential appointee, and the former senior advisor to the assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Davis has counseled leading officials in the United States, the United Nations, and the World Bank on environmental dangers. She is the author of more than 170 scientific publications, the editor of 11 books, and the author of When Smoke Ran Like Water, a finalist for the 2002 National Book Award for nonfiction.
She completed a PhD in science studies at the University of Chicago as a Danforth Foundation Graduate Fellow and received her MPH in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University as a Senior National Cancer Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow. She has also authored more than 170 publications in books and journals ranging from the Lancet and Journal of the American Medical Association to Scientific American and The New York Times. Currently, she a visiting professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. She is founder of The Environmental Health Trust for educating individuals, health professionals, and communities on health and the environment. Recently, she testified before a United States senate tee panel about the dangers of cell phone use. Her latest book, Disconnect, discusses the truth about cell phone radiation, what the industry has done to hide it, and how to protect your family from it. Disconnect will be published in September 2010.

As a researcher and epidemiologist, Dr. Davis will explore the role of the environment on breast cancer risks and the physical, chemical, biologic and social factors that impact women’s health. Dr Davis will also discuss her new book, Disconnect, and examine the research and implications of radiation and electromagnetic fields on human health.
